Losing Confidence in Marriage?

In an article in the Wall Street Journal on July 3, 2009, Kay Hymowitz presents some
interesting ideas: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124658294270189935.html.

In the midst of revelations of affairs among public figures, Ms. Hymowitz points out
that marital breakup is not rampant across the land. While having children affects people
who expect to maintain a close marital bond, most couples stay together and provide for their family. As a therapist, I find that those who take time for themselves away from their children
continue to strenthen their relationship.

One might expect that husbands and wives would divorce after the children are "launched."
In reality, empty-nesters find marriage more satisfying. Maybe it's the pride of having
accomplished raising a family as well as focusing once again on just the two of them.
